This one’s actually a bit more interesting of the go pro. Could be used quite well for certain stories. Good for a spy cam as well. Make it past the first 20” of this one and it starts looking alright. Also looks like it shoots 60fps, could be quite useful.
There’s nothing great shot on the gopro cam that i can find, but this shows how wide it is. Will be great for many things and doesn’t look too shit.
Ross Kemp on gangs. Some nice shots of Bulgaria. Really like their shooting, movement and composition (use of foreground and so forth). Obviously the grade is oppressive and suits their needs. Don’t think we will have too many stories looking like this…maybe Bhopal. Anyway another well shot show.
A bit cheeky to reference Paul Merton in India, but their shooting is really really nice for on the fly coverage. Lots of shot variety, love placing him in the action with dirty foregrounds and so forth. Would be happy getting something close to this, combined with a few different looks as well.
This is an example of Louis Theroux in India. This would be our average style most of the time, just following the action. Then framing it with sequences and wides for whatever is needed.
This isn’t the greatest example, but it has enough cutting points to make a good sequence. I am anti-autozoom but don’t mind the odd crash reframe. Also adding some filmic abstract shots is always nice. Whatever suits.
Philip Bloom again. Shot on 5D, don’t know if our big camera can achieve such an amazing depth of field. But the compositions are nice for trying to get now and again.
Here’s some really nice landscape stuff. Really like the strong compositions. Really like the idea of picking up a couple of details of each landscape to cut to. E.g The Ice flow with the cut to the close up of the ice.
Some nice use of Natural audio as well, would love to get stuff like this as well.
This is a great sequence video, something we might do for little 30” interludes or a set-up into some events. This is shot by Phillip Bloom, pretty much the king of the 5d and 7d camera on the internet, using proper lenses. So I know our Depth of Field and low light shooting will be nowhere near this flash, but can do some of it.
This is downloaded from Jake (nz cameramans site). Really nice work of his from Afghanistan. Might use a little bit of slow motion in this series as well, not that we have the settings on the camera. Really like the faces and Landscape compositions. Also nice to get some abstract filmic stuff now and again. The Horse sequence is really nice.

This is some video from the New Zealand edition of Julian and Camilla’s we just finished. This is not a completely accurate representation as I am using it as a test for grading tools, some of which are presets crunching the blacks, pushing the reds way too much. But has some nice shots in there. We really want some nice sequences in India and the bra segment is a nice illustration. I am going to do more grading on India show, but prefer our footage is kept fairly neutral using those BBC settings.
Also the movement in the people chatting stuff in Auckland is really nice for our group interviews that we sometimes do.
